June is Pride month. It’s the one month where I get to be unabashedly gay gay gay. But lesbehonest, I’m pretty gay every day. And my bookshelf reflects that. But there’s always room for more books to add to the Jenga-style TBR list.
I’m kicking this week’s links off with a giant list of books to suit your sexuality — unless you’re cishet (not that there’s anything wrong with that).
- In celebration of Pride month, find your perfect queer book from this giant list on Goodreads. Be sure to check out the recently crowned winners and finalists of the 28th Annual Lambda Literary Awards (the “Lammys”). And for a curated list of books, head over to LGBTQ Reads, run by author and blogger Dahlia Adler.
- Steven Spohn, writer and COO/outreach director at AbleGamers, a charitable organization dedicated to helping disabled people improve their lives through gaming, wrote An Open Letter to Jojo Moyes and Aspiring Writers: I am Not Your Plot Device upon the release of the film based on her novel Me Before You, which depicts a quadriplegic man romancing a young female caretaker.
- Do we really need a “Rotten Tomatoes” for books? Book Riot takes a critical look at Lit Hub’s new “Book Marks” review aggregator.
- Author Sarah Madison “stayed up FAR too long last night reading the posts and comments generated after someone solicited recommendations for pirate [book] sites on their Facebook page.” She then penned Dear Broke Reader: Your Sense of Entitlement is Killing Me. P.S. Get a library card.
- This week’s summer books highlight comes from The Root. Check out these 15 New Books by Black Authors to Dive Into This Summer, including buzz-worthy books like Here Comes the Sun, Homegoing, Jaclyn Woodson’s Another Brooklyn, We Love You, Charlie Freeman (which is fantastic and features a lesbian teen, btw), and more.
