I’m looking forward to getting together with family and stuffing myself on Thanksgiving but at the same I’m worried about political conversations and that this year I will say something I regret.
I guess I’ll just hope for the best and prepare for the worst by bringing a lot of books in case it ends up that no one is speaking to me. Here are some Thanksgiving related YA links to help you get through the holidays.
- Sherman Alexie’s award-winning YA novel, The Absolutely True Diary of a Part Time Indian, offers young adults of all ages insights into how American Indians really live today.
- When family dynamics get you down it helps to remember what Leo Tolstoy said, “Happy families are all alike; every unhappy family is unhappy in its own way.” Here are some Family-Focused YA Reads for Your Thanksgiving Trip Home.
- If you’re looking for something to do other than binge eating or drinking your way through the holiday check out these 10 YA Books to Binge-Read This Thanksgiving Weekend.
- Memorable Food in YA Literature contains one of my all time favorite food memories from Little House in the Big Woods: maple sugar candy. “Grandma stood by the brass kettle and with a big wooden spoon she poured hot syrup on each plate of snow. It cooled into a soft candy, and as fast as it cooled they ate it. They could eat all they wanted, for maple sugar never hurt anybody.”
